I
believe that for the most part, children will behave in the way that
they are
expected to behave as long as those expectations are clear. I also
believe that
it is normal for children to push limits on occasion, and that it is
important
to children to have consistent limits.
We will spend considerable time, especially at the
beginning of the year
discussing what the following goals and limits mean in our classroom
community:
Expectations
- Be Respectful
- Be Responsible
- Be Resourceful
- Do Your Best
Goals
- I can be safe and
productive even when I have an overwhelming feeling.
- I can be
productive even when I am asked to do something I don’t want to.
- I can take good
care of myself even when others are not.
Limits
- It is never okay
to be disruptive.
- It is never okay
to be hurtful.
Classroom
concerns will be addressed at class meetings.
Individual behaviors will be addressed using the BIST
Program Abbott has
adopted:
- Students will be
given 1 re-direct for disruptive behavior.
- If the student argues or is unable to change the behavior, he/she will move to a safe seat.
Students will need to process with the teacher and become accountable before returning
to their seat.
- If students are
unable to meet expectations in the safe seat, they will move through
the continuum until the behavior stops. (Buddy Room/Office) They will then need to be accountable and work
their way back to the classroom.
- Hurtful or more
severe behaviors will be jumped ahead to the most appropriate placement. Re-directs will not be given in these
circumstances.
