93-100% 1 85-92% 2 77-84% 3 69-76% 4 68% and below 5 Grading Policies ** My #1 priority is that each student does his or her personal best! Late Work: Assignments are
expected to be handed in first thing in the morning. If an
assignment is not both complete and turned in, it is late. Late
work has a 5% penalty on the grade, and Abbott’s homework policy states
that the student will stay after school to complete the assignment and
receive assistance if needed.
Homework is given to reinforce learning. Therefore, it is important to me that the student understand the concepts involved. Because of this, homework is meant to be an independent activity. If your child is seeming to need a lot of assistance, please let me know so that we can go over it in class or so that some after school assistance can be arranged. Re-Dos: Sometimes it is clear that a student did not understand an assignment. In this case, I will work with the student on the skill and have him or her fix the paper. In the case of sloppy work or not following directions, the student may be asked to re-do the assignment independently. The score on the re-do will generally be averaged with the first score. Assignments, quizzes, and tests scoring below a 77% will usually require fixing or an alternate way of showing the student understands. As the school year progresses, the highest grade that will be recorded for a re-done assignment is an 80%. Grading: Most assignments will be graded with a percentage. On assignments where percentages are not practical a +/- system will be used. Each assignment counts for an equal part of the grade. Tests will count as 2 assignments. Infinite Campus Parent Portal: Parents can monitor student grades through the internet. It will be my goal to have grades updated at least once a week. I appreciate your understanding that sometimes circumstances or situations at school or in my own family may cause a delay in getting the grades entered.
