Mrs. Ashford, Information Specialist/Tech Coordinator

Thank-you, PTO!!!!

The last two years saw many changes to the Information Center. This renovation was funded and implemented by the Abbott PTO which brought new lighting, furniture, cupboard doors, shelves, and a rearranging of the computer area of the Information Center

As part of the renovation, Mrs. Ohm, a former school art teacher, spent two weeks painting a beautiful mural and sharing her techniques with all the students.

Rationale
“The Millard School District is committed to the development of an information/media program that is integrated with the instructional program of the district. This commitment is bolstered by the substantial support provided in the form of remodeled facilities, new resources, staff, training, technology and equipment.
In Millard, we believe that this integrated approach to the information/media program is one reason for the high academic achievement of our students. We also believe that this approach is a critical element of our school improvement efforts. Millard Public Schools value the contributions made by our dedicated staff to make our school libraries the best in the nation!
Millard Public Schools Board of Education policy affirms the intent that the information center is an integral part of the instructional program of every school. The policy of the board has been implemented by a comprehensive plan to change the traditional paradigm of the school library by engaging teachers, parents, administrators, support staff and the professional school library media specialist in a collaborative, teaming arrangement in which the library becomes an information center, the true center of learning for the school.”

  • to provide leadership, instruction, and consulting assistance in the use of instructional and information technology.
  • to provide resources and activities that contribute to lifelong learning.
  • to provide a facility that functions as the information center of the schoo
  • to provide resources and leaning activities.

Check-out Information

Mrs. Richards is the Info Center paraprofessional.

Students may check out materials from the Information Center during regular school hours, 8:35 am-3:05 pm. While some primary classes do have storytime at a scheduled time each week, the Information Center is open for all students to return and check out books anytime. Students with over due books cannot check out new books until those items are returned. Checkout period is two weeks. Students may check out two items at one time.

Please help your child find a special place where his/her book can be kept so that it will not be damaged or lost. If the book is damaged or lost, it is our policy to charge the replacement value of the item. If the item is found, a reimbursement will be made. Please do not repair damage to a book.

Our Virtual Library

Birthday Book Club

A special way to celebrate your child's birthday is to join the Birthday Book Club and donate a book to the Information Center. We have a selection of books from which a child may choose. Students come to the Information Center to choose the book, his or her name will be entered into the book, and he or she will be the first person to check it out. The name and picture of each donor will be added to our birthday cake in the Information Center. Its continuing success is due to the pride both students and parents take in their school and library, and especially expresses our shared love of reading.

Special Activities

Golden Sower books are circulated throughout the year to each classroom.

Children's Book Week and National Library Week are celebrated.

Geography Awareness Week is coordinated and sponsored by the Info*Tech Department.

Millard Public Schools Information Centers received "Program of the Year" Award in 2003 from the American Association of School Libraries, a division of the American Library Association. This prestigious award honors school library media programs practicing their commitment to ensure that students and staff are effective users of ideas and information. This award honors all of Millard Public Schools Information Centers in the district and Abbott School is proud to be a part of these achievements
