by Natalie

The quokka is a small wallaby or kangaroo. Quokkas have a short stiff tail and short hind feet. They are small with thick grey fur. The quokka lives on Rottnest Island off the coast of Western Australia. The quokka makes its home in tall grasses and shrubs. They sleep all day and are awake at night. They eat grass, leaves, seeds and roots. Quokkas can go for periods without water. A quokka’s baby is called a joey. The joey lives in its mothers pouch for about 26 to 30 days. Boy quokkas are larger then girl quokkas. Quokkas live about 5 years. They are about 3 feet long and weigh about 7pounds.
