Koala

by Elise
The koala is not a bear, as most people believe. It is actually related to the kangaroo and wombat. The koala is a mammal that means it is warm blooded, drinks milk from its mother and breathes oxygen from the air. Koalas are marsupials meaning that they carry their young in a pouch. Koalas have soft, wool-like fur that is gray above and white on there underside. They are small, round animals. They weigh about 30 pounds and grow to be 2 feet tall. They live in trees and are nocturnal animals. Koalas eat mainly the leaves of eucalyptus tree and because the eucalyptus tree is being cut down, koalas are becoming endangered.
