I was born and raised in Los Angeles. I began learning Spanish from
neighbors from Peru when I was in middle school. I continued to study
Spanish in high school where I also got involved in the International
Club. Through my involvement with this club, I had the opportunity
to host students from Japan and travel to Japan as an exchange student.
These experiences left me yearning to learn Japanese. I went on to
major in Japanese Language and Culture and continued to study Spanish
at Cal State University in Los Angeles. My undergrad work included
spending my junior year at Waseda University in Tokyo. While in Tokyo
I began teaching English and discovered my love for teaching. In fact,
I have been teaching ever since!
I returned to Cal State Los Angeles and received my elementary teaching
credential. When I began teaching in public schools in L. A., it was
my Spanish skills that helped me land my first job. I taught bilingual
classes for grades kindergarten through third grade for a number of
years.
The 2006-2007 school year will be my eighth year in Millard Public
Schools and my 23rd year of teaching. I currently live in Millard
with my husband, Marc, and sons, Rett and Anthony, who attend Millard
North High School.
