Title 1 Parent Involvement Policy 2007-08
Cody Elementary is one of
the smallest of the twenty-four Millard Elementary schools in terms
of enrollment, but it is one of the largest in terms of special programs
and commitment to children.
Cody offers eight after school clubs for students interested in expanding
their knowledge in technology, math, science, art, drama, music, and
literature. Cody houses four special needs preschool classrooms and
three other rooms for special needs students. Over 45% of our students
are eligible for free or reduced lunch. This qualifies us to be an “All
Title I” school, which provides funding for additional teachers
to maintain small teacher to student ratios.
Cody was the first Millard School to offer a breakfast program. To further
meet the needs of the students. Cody operates both primary and intermediate
study centers. The intermediate center serves over 30 students each
Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 3:30-4:30. Students voluntarily attend
because they know they will get their homework done with assistance
from certified teachers. The primary center is by invitation only for
kindergarteners, first and second graders and is offered on Tuesdays
and Thursdays from 3:30-4:30.
Cody has also been awarded a grant from the State of Nebraska to operate
an income eligible preschool. We call this program Earlystart. Earlystart
has prepared over 150 four year olds for Kindergarten the past several
years.
The staff of 38 certified and 21 classified employees works very hard
to meet the needs of our 310 preschool through 5th grade students. There
is a mutual respect between teachers, students, and parents that have
helped us earn several honors and awards. We were especially pleased
to have earned the Exemplary Reading Program Award from the International
Reading Association in 1994-95 and we were named the Nebraska Distinguished
Title I school in 1997-98.
