Text Box: From Mrs. Nelson — Next week is Red Ribbon Week, a nationwide event promoting drug-free living. The Red Ribbon campaign originated when federal agent Enrique Camarena was murdered by drug traffickers in 1985. The National Federation of Parents adopted a Red Ribbon as its symbol to create awareness about the drug problems facing every community, to promote community prevention activities, and to support drug-free, healthy lifestyles.
Each day students will take part in morning announcements and give a drug-free message. Every day of the week will have a different theme, too!
Monday’s theme is “Put a Cap on Drugs.” Students and teachers may wear hats in school on Monday. Tuesday is “Friends Don’t Let Friends Do Drugs” day. Students are invited to dress like a friend. On Wednesday we will show that we know how to “Sock It to Drugs” by wearing fun or mismatched socks. Thursday will find us all wearing red to show our support for Red Ribbon Week and our pledge to lead a drug-free life. Friday is Fall Party day, so we will wear fall colors and enjoy our celebration, reaping in the fun without using drugs! This is a great opportunity to have conversations at home about what constitutes a healthy life and the rewards of living drug free. Ask your child to share what he/she is learning during Red Ribbon Week.
Next week will be kicking off our canned food drive, too. We generally do this in December, but this year the Food Bank asked us to start early. Let’s share our abundance in this time of harvest by donating food to those in need. CourierText Box: 615 Piedmont Drive
