| Welcome to the Cottonwood Elementary
School web site! The 2007-2008 school year began with huge back-to-school
balloons soaring in the air as 338 excited youngsters anxiously
gathered outside. Even the littlest Cougar knows that the start
of a school year carries the special promise of fresh learning,
new friends, and innovative projects.
There are many components to a successful school, and Cottonwood
has them all. We have a strong community that works to support the
school. We have caring families that get involved in the education
of their children. We have skilled teachers who can look at a child
and see an entire person full of potential. Finally, we have the
resolve to work together to give that child a positive learning
environment in order to teach him/her what is necessary to become
a successful, productive citizen.
Every day at Cottonwood we talk about incorporating the six pillars
of Character Counts into our daily lives. Our students know that
consciously working on the development of respect, responsibility,
caring, fairness, trustworthiness, and good citizenship can help
us to be our personal best. This program was adopted as part of
the site plan we developed in school year 2003-2004. This year our
Site Planning Team will meet again to revisit our students’
needs, and we will write a new plan to guide us into the next five
years.
We are excited to continue our relationships with PAYBAC Partners
Remington Heights Retirement Community, Omaha State Bank, Children’s
Hospital, Starbucks, the Nebraska Humane Society and Mama’s
Pizza. We currently are working in concert with our partners on
community service goals, such as our annual walk for Children’s
Hospital and planning a Veteran’s Day assembly and Patriotic
Pancake Supper to honor those who have are still serving our country
in the military.
You can see that there is a lot going on with the Cottonwood Cougars.
Please take a few minutes to tour the website and learn about our
school. I think you’ll find Cottonwood a great place to grow
a child!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Nancy Nelson
Principal
