When you reach the Home Page you will find a listing on the left hand side. For general information about the park system, click the heading Parks, then select the third option in the middle of the page which includes the words “all parks”. This will provide a listing of all the facilities available at every park in the area and the address. Other links in the same column of particular interest to young families might be Swimming Pools and Community Centers. For families with older children, SunDawgs and Hummel Day Camp may be valuable links. One more link, Hydrant Parties, tells you how to arrange to have a hydrant party in your neighborhood.

Eugene T. Mahoney State Park To access specific information about this park and other parks in Nebraska, click on the general web address listed above. A map will come up asking you to select what section of the state you would like information about: Click Southeast on the map. This will bring up a listing of the parks closest to Omaha. By scrolling down on the left hand side, you will find a link to Mahoney Park. This link will display specific information about what is available at Mahoney. This park offers many things for families to do, either by spending an afternoon or spending a weekend. A variety of accommodations are available, including camping facilities, cabins and a lodge. There is enough to do year round to spend several days there. In the summertime, there are a number of water based activities including a pool with a giant slide and a zero depth swimming pool. In the wintertime, there are three toboggan and sled runs. Sleds and toboggans are available to rent. Entering the park requires a Park Permit year round.

For specific information on programs, click on coming events. Fontenelle Forest is an oasis of nature right in the city. It is devoted to increasing appreciation and understanding of nature by providing education to children and adults of all ages. The site includes forest walking trails and an educational nature center. There are programs for people of all ages, including a program for children under 5 called Mud Pies. Your Home Your Address Young children do not need extraordinary materials or settings to have a good time and to learn new things. Going to new places and having new experiences are wonderful learning opportunities but some of the best, and most fun for children, opportunities for fun and learning are available right in your own home. For young children, the simplest materials can provide the components for new adventures. Be creative and enthusiastic with things you have around your own home and neighborhood and your children will have wonderful adventures without needing to go anywhere.
