Dear AP Literature Students, We wish to welcome you as a student planning to take Advanced Placement Literature in the fall. As is typical of AP programs around the country, we are assigning reading to help us hit the ground running in August. The reading list is designed to supplement your previous literature experience. You must read three full-length works this summer and complete an AP Literature Major Works Data Form for each selection. We have one required novel—F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby—and you will need to choose two more works from the enclosed list, one selection from each category, for a total of three works. Your first grades in August will result from your summer reading. While we can check copies of The Great Gatsby out to all of you (you are responsible for the replacement cost if the book is lost or damaged), we would like you to purchase the other two works. Start building your own library! We are encouraging you to become/continue being active readers by making margin comments, highlighting, or dog-earring pages (in your own books) that move you, strike you, inspire you, confuse you, or make you angry. Be sure to complete and print out one AP Literature Major Works Data Form for each selection (for a total of three). These forms will be due the first week of school. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us at school or by email. We hope you have an enjoyable summer, and we look forward to working with you in the fall! Sincerely,
