The following is policy from the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) regarding the use of logos and names of the National Honor Society (NHS) and the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS).
All local and state advisers are responsible for protecting the use of all NHS/NJHS trademark items. The national association's policy concerning the use of trademark materials follows:
Local NHS/NJHS chapters and state associations are permitted to use trademark items without obtaining approval from the national NHS/NJHS office (NASSP) on printed materials, promotional pieces, and displays that are not sold.
Approval must be obtained in writing from the national NHS/NJHS office for any item that will be sold by local or state NHS/NJHS chapters.
Commercial vendors are not permitted to use NHS/NJHS trademarks on any goods offered for sale or otherwise unless they have been commissioned by the national NHS/NJHS office.
For Internet/website development, local chapters may utilize the NHS/NJHS logo on chapter websites for a period of three (3) years as long as the following conditions are met:
The "TM" (trademark) sign appears next to the name (National Honor Society/National Junior Honor Society) or initials (NHS/NJHS) when it first appears on the page.
A footnote is added to the page where the "TM" appears stating: "National Honor Society/National Junior Honor Society and NHS/NJHS are duly registered trademarks of the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP).
Unauthorized copying or use of said trademarks is strictly prohibited."
A printout of the usage described in "a." and "b." above should be mailed to the national office at the following address:

COPYRIGHTS: Schools or individuals wishing to utilize articles or extended excerpts of materials copyrighted by NASSP (e.g., extended sections of the handbook, articles from Leadership for Student Activities magazine, etc.) must request permission in writing from NASSP for said usage. In the request, specify what text you wish to use, how the text will be used (e.g., in the student handbook or parent newsletter, on the website, etc.), and how many copies will be printed.
