Dr. Seuss and Read Across America
|
On Friday, February 29, Sandoz Elementary celebrated Dr. Seuss’s birthday with a “Read and Feed.” Preschool students brought stuffed animals, were given snacks, and read Dr. Seuss books with their fourth grade buddies. During the month of March, preschoolers will continue an author study on Dr. Seuss and be exposed to his rhyming stories.

Chinese Calligraphy
Preschool students learned the differences between Chinese calligraphy and English writing. Chinese calligraphy uses picture like character to represent words, whereas English writing is based on the alphabet and letter-sounds. Students practiced writing either their name or a word that represents them (i.e. brother, sister, powerful, love) in Chinese.

ShamROCKIN’ into March
Preschool students explored a sticky mixture of shaving cream and glue with a touch of green food coloring to make these rockin’ shamrocks. If you look very closely you might be able to see students’ initials on their shamrocks. |

Mardi Gras Celebration & Vejigantes Parade |
To celebrate Mardi Gras and Vejigantes, preschoolers decorated animal masks with bright colors and tissue paper streamers. They practiced marching in a parade line while playing musical instruments. To show off all their hard work, preschoolers gave a parade for their 4th Grade Reading Buddies in Mrs. Wiitanen's class. The 4th graders joined in our parade, and a fun time was had by all. We Love Clifford!
During the month of February, we conducted an author’s study on Norman Birdwell, author of Clifford the Big Red Dog. To ignite our study, we created big red Clifford’s out of five hearts, which were displayed on the classroom door. Students enjoyed reading Clifford books at the library center, during rest time, and with their fourth grade reading buddies. |
